Lead, tin, and cadmium have very little solubility in zinc alloys, so they concentrate on the grain boundary and become the cathode, and the aluminum-rich solid solution becomes the anode, which promotes intergranular electrochemical corrosion in the presence of water vapor (electrolyte). Die castings are aged due to intergranular corrosion.

Zinc alloy die castings should not be used in high and low temperature (below 0℃) working environment. Zinc alloy has better mechanical properties at room temperature. However, the tensile strength at high temperature and the impact performance at low temperature are significantly reduced.

Zinc alloy die castings are usually used in the Connectors and electrical appliances, so excellent appearance and good corrosion resistance are very important and necessary characteristics. Zinc alloy surface treatment generally has the following treatment methods


Electroplating has a good effect on improving the aesthetics, density and corrosion resistance of zinc alloy products. The most commonly used electroplating is nickel, tin, copper, silver, and gold. The finished zinc alloy die castings should be inspected before electroplating to see if the surface quality of the product is good, whether there are loose, cracks, pores, bubbles, cold lines, pinholes, etc. Otherwise, electroplating is not suitable.

Other product processing processes, such as polishing and grinding, need to be processed before electroplating. Therefore, product design and mold design should have a uniform product shape. Try to avoid uneven bumps, large planes, and sharp edges and corners to make the product easier to polish .


Paint can be used for decorations, protection, signs. Painting can also hide part of the surface defects of zinc alloy die castings, making the surface of the product more textured. During this process, the concentration and spraying amount of the paint must strictly abide by the operating specifications to avoid defects such as orange peel, pinholes, dull color, oil accumulation, and oil rejection.
